The disaster that struck North Eastern Japan
on March 11, 2011 reminds us of how quickly
our lives can be turned upside down by
forces beyond our control.
Watching the events unfold on the news was
like watching an epic disaster movie out of
Hollywood and we were waiting for some
super hero or some unknown genius to save
the day at the last moments to avert the
disaster. But the super hero never came
and now through the power of giving we can
help assist those in need. Not as Americans
or Japanese or any other nationality, but as
human beings.
The heroes here are the survivors who after
losing all refuse to give up hope and
maintain their dignity.
I know that many if not all have given to this
cause and you may ask yourself "Why
should I continue giving?"
When you lay in your warm beds at night with
your children and family safe in their rooms
please take a moment to think of the many
people who are cold and hungry, who only a
couple weeks ago had happy homes and
family.
Please give what you can. Give from the
heart. And hopefully if the time ever comes
that we or our loved ones are faced with the
same tragedy someone will be there for us.
Let us never walk alone.

２０１１年３月１１日、東日本大震災が
起きた。
いかに人間や築き上げた社会がもろく、
一瞬にして日常生活崩壊してしまうのか
を思い知らされた。
ニュースを見てると、まるで映画の世界
の中にいるようで、どこからともなく
ヒーローが出現して、大震災から人々を
救ってくれるのではと期待してしまう。
しかし、現実ではヒーローは現れること
がなかった。
ここから"Power of giving"=支援という
形で、力が必要な人たちに力をだそう。
アメリカ人が、日本人がとかではなく、
人として。
そして本物のヒーローとは、生存者であ
り、諦めない精神を持って救いの手をさ
しのべる方々であろう。
夜、子供達とふとんに入り休むときに、
少し考えてみてください。まだまだ大勢
の人々が寒さに凍え、空腹をしのいでま
す。そしてほんの数週間前まで私達と同
じように暖かい家族の元で生活していた
ことを。どうか愛の手を差しのべてくだ
さい。
いつか私達や身近な人たちが同じような
境遇にたったとき、同じようなことが行
動できるように。Let us never walk
